Why speaking is your Achilles heel (and what to do about it)

You’ve accomplished so much in life.

You’ve gained expert-level knowledge and skills in your field.

But not being able to speak without nervousness makes you feel bad.

Makes you feel frustrated.

You think:

“Why the heck can’t I speak clearly and concisely?”

“Why can’t I speak with confidence like I know what I’m talking about?”

Here’s how to stop being frustrated and take action.

A simple 3-step framework to stop letting your speaking skills slow down your business growth:

1. Treat “speaking well” as a new skill to learn

Just because you have subject matter expertise, that doesn’t mean you know how to express it well.

Adopt a student mindset to learning how to speak with impact.

2. Turn every meeting into speaking practice

Don’t wait till you’re behind a podium to learn how to speak well.

You have multiple opportunities to practice every single day.

Every weekly update is a chance to practice presenting.

Every sales call is a chance to practice speaking concisely.

Every conversation is a chance to practice speaking without filler words.

3. Seek and integrate feedback

Most people never seek feedback on how they speak and present.

As a result, they develop blindspots or an unrealistic perception of how “good” or “bad” they are.

Seek out feedback from a diverse group. I have all my clients get anonymous peer feedback on their communication skills before we start our work together.

Till we meet again,

Speak fearlessly.
