Are Extroverts The BEST Public Speakers? The Truth Might Surprise You…

Explore the surprising link between introversion, extroversion, and exceptional public speaking. Discover why being an attentive listener, audience-focused, and engaging the quiet voices often defines true greatness in speaking.

Everyone thinks extroverts are “natural” speakers – but is that a myth or really true?

The biggest problem with this belief is that it’s discouraging for anyone who identifies as an introvert – they might think that it may not be possible for them to become dynamic speakers.

Everyone asks: Can introverts be good public speakers? I want to flip the script:Are extroverts good public speakers? I don’t think so.

Before you say it, I will. There’s also no such thing as a 100% introvert or a 100% extrovert. I know.

I’m just using the two words to indicate people who are more comfortable with being around strangers vs those who might not be.

There are people who get energized by being around people and “performing” in public. And those who find it to be draining.

The first kind: we assume these are natural “public speakers”. People who love socializing, who love talking, who love telling stories.

But they are not always the best public speakers.

To be a 𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁 public speaker: ✅ You need to be able to listen more than you talk. ✅ You need to be in tune with the audience, instead of only thinking about yourself. ✅ You need to engage the quietest people in the room.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but in my opinion quiet, observant “introverts” possess those qualities MUCH more than loud “extroverts” who enjoy being the center of attention.

Would love to know what you think.
